BREAKING NEWS today out of Los Angeles as Taylor Swift has stunned fans and critics alike with an announcement that her next music video will not appropriate black culture in any way, shape, or form.
The singer says she’s super excited for her new project and everyone should “buckle their seat-belts” because her next video is going to “refrain from use black bodies as way of being edgy or to gain attention” and will “avoid using blackness as a costume for some kind of new millennium blackface”.
This is a major departure from the norm for Swift, who often uses cultural appropriation as a focal point of her work (as depicted below):
Several fellow Pop Stars, such as Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus, have warned Swift about crossing a dangerous line.
“If we’re not caricaturing black people then how are we going to further our own careers at the expense of innovative black artists?”
“Be careful. It’s a slippery slope. One day you’re not appropriating black hair and the next day you’re recognizing your own privilege as a white musician in a racist industry.”
